Nîmes International Spring Day

A collaboration on Risks & Societies, disaster management and environmental impact in multicultural teams in a concrete and meaningful way. Save the date : 27th and 28th May, 2026 in Nîmes (France) !

The goal

This event aims to bring together doctoral students to give them the opportunity to discover the research led by others doctoral students and other research units, thereby gaining a more comprehensive overview of risks research from an international and interdisciplinary perspective.

The Spring Day has the goal of equipping participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to better understand, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and their related impacts on the societies.

Who runs the event ?

The Spring Day is organized by Nîmes University in cooperation with research partners around Europe.

Who can participate ?

In 2026 it is open to:

  • phD Students (particularly in disaster management, health issues, safety and health, safety engineering, industrial safety and related fields).
  • staff (teaching or supervisors) from Erasmus+ partner universities.

Preliminary programm

A well-balanced mix of collaborative international project-based learning, combining online and on-site activities, interdisciplinary approaches, and real-world projects with our partners (firemen, hospital etc…).

    Welcome drink : time to get to know each other !
  • 28th May
    PhD presentations (5 minutes per person), conferences, workshop and group talk

Overview

Activities from the 27th and the 28th will take place on the « site Vauban » in Nîmes University. Don’t worry, signage will be put in place at the event site to help you find your way around.

About the city of Nîmes

Nîmes is a city in the Gard department, in the Occitanie region of southern France. It lies between Montpellier and Avignon. It’s about 50 km from the Mediterranean coast, close to the Camargue wetlands. The city is famous for its Roman monuments, like the Arena of Nîmes and the Maison Carrée. 

Pre-booked rooms will be available at a student Residence close to the campus. Details will be provided to accepted participants few weeks before the event.

Students will receive financial support to cover expenses related to accommodation for 2 nights. Students can use the university canteen or nearby restaurants. Affordable dining options are available on campus and one welcome drink (27th) and lunch on the 28th of May will be offered during the stay.
Travels should be covered by their home institution or from the Erasmus+ program, intended

  • Nîmes Airport (Ryanair). Distance airport – University : 30 minutes by shuttle
  • Montpellier Airport (all companies). Distance airport – University :  60 minutes by train via Montpellier City
  • Marseille Airport (all companies). Distance airport – University : 90 minutes by car rental. Trains are also available.

20 phd students from differend universities in the world are invited. Lecturers and professors from various universities are also welcomed.

About PhD presentation

It describes the extent of your research project. This can include the state of the art, methods, outcomes, and teams involved in the topic of “Risk and societies”. Think about the impact of the project here. You can use graphs or charts to illustrate quantitative results.

LANGUAGE AND DURATION

You have to describe your work and outcomes in english and it must last 5 minutes.

POWERPOINT

We advise you to build a powerpoint presentation, which make it easier for the audience to understand and follow your presentation. Each presentation must be sent in advance to be safely check and download on the computer which will broadcast it on the day of the event.
